Which anchor should I buy, plates, sand bags or ground spikes? +

Decide by surface first, then by how you travel. On grass or dirt, the rope and ground spike gives the strongest hold you can get, because it pulls against the earth rather than sitting on it. On pavement, spikes are irrelevant and you need mass: weight plates stack neatly and load fast, while sand bags fill on site so you are not hauling weight. Buy one per leg, all four.

Can I just use bricks or water jugs from the garage? +

You can, until an organizer asks you to move a stall of loose masonry away from a queue of children. Improvised weight rarely attaches to the leg, so the frame lifts while the weight stays put, and there is nothing to tie to when the load comes sideways. Plates sit around the leg and sand bags strap to it, so anchor and frame move together.

What does a half wall support pole actually do? +

It holds the top edge of a half wall rigid between two legs. Without one the wall sags in the middle, the graphic distorts exactly where people read it, and loose fabric pulls at its fixings every time the wind moves. With one the wall stays a flat panel: better looking, quieter and less likely to tear at a corner grommet. Budget one pole per wall.

Where does the flag mount holder go, and will it survive a windy day? +

It clamps to the tent frame, usually on a rear or side leg, so the flag rises off a structure you have already anchored instead of needing its own base. That saves floor space in a 10x10 pitch. The trade-off is that everything the flag catches is transferred into the frame, so the mount is only as sound as your anchoring. On a rough day, take the flag off.

Does anchoring matter more when the ground is wet? +

More, and differently. Saturated grass loses its grip on a spike, so a hold that felt solid at nine in the morning can be loose by two after hours of steady rain. Check partway through a wet event and re-set anything that turns by hand. On pavement, water lowers friction, so a frame resting only on weight can creep sideways in gusts.

How do I store spikes and sand bags over the winter? +

Empty the sand bags. Damp sand left in a bag freezes into a block, stretches the seams from the inside, and thaws into something that smells like a pond. Tip the sand out, rinse, dry fully and store flat. Steel spikes and plates go away dry too, because condensation in an unheated garage finds bare metal and leaves rust flaking onto a white roof.
