Custom Printed Fabric by the Yard

Buying by the yard is a different decision from buying a finished display: you choose a material, then you or your fabricator decide what it becomes. Everything here is dye-sublimation printed on PVC-free, machine-washable polyester, in perforated, sheer and fluorescent knits. Made for fabricators and stage builders sewing to their own patterns.

We've ordered from several suppliers — none come close to this level of quality and service. Will 100% reorder.
Marcus L.Founder, Trendline Co.
The free 2D design mockup sold us immediately. Exactly what we saw in the preview was what arrived at our door.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I supply artwork for yardage rather than a finished panel? +
Tell us the cut length and width first, then supply artwork built to that flat measurement rather than the finished sewn size. Mark which edge is the top, since a directional design ordered as material has no frame to orient it. If the pattern needs to repeat down the roll, say so and give the repeat distance. Leave a margin along both selvedges for hemming.
Will colour stay consistent if I reorder the same fabric? +
Reorders come off the same CMYK profile, so the intent is identical, but printed textile can shift slightly between runs. If several lengths will sit side by side in the finished piece, order them together rather than topping up later. Where a reorder is unavoidable, quote the original order number so the file and settings are pulled rather than rebuilt.
What are the limits of dye-sublimation on sheer and mesh? +
There is no white ink, so anything meant to read white is unprinted cloth, and on a translucent base light passes straight through it. On Ultra Sheer Fabric Backdrop every colour becomes partly a lighting effect. On mesh the perforations remove part of the printable surface, muting fine detail and thinning small type. Use bold shapes, large logos and colour fields instead.
How much will show through from behind? +
Quite a lot, by design, on two of these three fabrics. Sheer transmits light and mesh passes air, so both reveal structure, cabling or a bright wall behind them. Plan the background as part of the design: a dark surround behind sheer deepens the colours, while a busy wall reads through the holes. Send a photo of the location and we will tell you what shows.
Can yardage be printed on both faces? +
Not from this collection. You get a single printed face with the reverse showing the base cloth, which is usually fine, because material destined for sewing is either lined, hemmed back on itself, or hung where only one side is visible. When both faces will be seen, order from the duplex range instead. Sewing two lengths back to back adds bulk, weight and a visible seam.
Can I wash printed fabric after it has been sewn? +
Yes. Dye-sublimation bonds the colour into the polyester, so laundering does not lift the print. Cold water, gentle cycle, no bleach, no softener, air dry. The variable is what you added: thread, interfacing and trim you sourced yourself may not tolerate the same treatment as the base cloth, so test on an offcut first. Keep a scrap from every order.
How is this different from ordering a finished fabric banner? +
Here you buy material, not a display. Nothing arrives hemmed, sewn or fitted to a frame, and there is no pole pocket or silicone edge unless you add one yourself. If you want a ready-to-hang panel cut to size, the parent Fabric Banner Printing collection carries TrueKolor Eco-Friendly Wrinkle Free Fabric finished to your dimensions. Choose yardage when a fabricator is building something bespoke.
How do I order the right length? +
Work out the finished dimension first, then add hems, seam allowance and any pole pocket before you calculate metres, and order one continuous cut where you can. Minimum cut lengths are set per fabric, so check the product page or email support@backdropsource.ca rather than guessing. Free artwork assistance, a free 2D mockup and free shipping across Canada apply to yardage too.
