What actually goes into four hundred square feet? +

A central structure, two or three counters, a seating or meeting zone, a demo area and built-in storage, with real circulation space left over. Filling an island is the classic mistake. Leave roughly a third of the floor empty so people move through rather than around, and keep anything near a corner low, because corners are entrances. Solid mass belongs in the middle.

Is an island definitely better than a corner or inline space? +

Not automatically. An island only pays off if you can staff four sides and produce artwork for every elevation. With a team of three, a corner 20x10 with one strong face will look busier than an island with two unattended sides. Islands also cost more in graphics, freight and install labour. Take one because you need to host demos, meetings or a queue.

How do I keep sight lines working from every aisle? +

Walk the four aisles on the floor plan and check what a visitor sees from each. The test is whether you can see through the booth on both diagonals; if you can, the space reads as enterable. Keep anything above about four feet either central or narrow, so tall elements are landmarks rather than barriers. Confirm the perimeter height rules with the organizer.

How many people does a 20x20 need? +

Four at minimum, six comfortably. That covers every open side and lets you run a demo and a conversation at the same time. Understaffing shows badly in an island, because an empty side is visible from a whole aisle rather than hidden behind a wall. Build a rota that assigns quadrants rather than tasks, and plan where staff take breaks, since there is no backstage.

What about screens, and how many? +

Two or three facing different aisles beats one large panel facing whichever direction you guessed. A 55 to 65 inch screen on a central tower can be seen from two sides at an angle, the most efficient single position. An outward-facing wall section catches the aisle your tower faces away from. Keep content silent, captioned and short.

Where do empty cases and coats live? +

Inside the structure, because there is no behind. Specify a lockable closet or a counter with genuine internal volume when you plan the build, and measure your cases before deciding how big it needs to be. Some shows collect empty crates and store them off the floor, which is worth confirming with the organizer early. Do not drape a cloth over a stack of cases.

What does freight look like for an island build? +

Several cases, sometimes on a pallet, shipping free across Canada. Islands generate more parts than any inline footprint of similar area, so a packing list is not optional. Number the cases and note which build stage each one belongs to. Advance warehouse shipping, where offered, is the calmer route, because crates are placed before your crew arrives. Drayage, power and rigging come through show services.

How long does an island take to install, and do I need help? +

Plan a full setup day with three or four people, and confirm the labour rules with the organizer first, because some halls require their own crews for certain work and almost always for anything suspended. Sequence is uprights, then the central structure, then headers, then outer elements, then graphics, then cable and level. Fabric last, always. Do a dry run in a large room.

Can I build an island from parts I already own? +

Partly. The aluminum frame system is the same across footprints, so straight wall sections from an inline booth become outward-facing elevations here, and SEG graphics reprint onto frames you keep.
